All told, the state employs more than 267,500 people in the ICT sector, which generates $25 billion in revenue annually.

    • With our 30 years of carrier, software, broadband and Internet experience, Washington State is second only to London in terms of contributions made to the worldwide mobile ecosystem.
    • The state ranks #1 in the U.S. when it comes to creating new software companies.
    • We are one of the biggest employers of software publishing workers in the United States with a workforce of more than 50,000.
    • Washington is well connected. 98.7% of the state’s residents live in areas where broadband is available, 83% of the state’s population live in households with Internet access and 73.8% of the state’s population regularly use their home broadband connection.
    • Income from broadband-enabled electronic shopping in Washington grew for the third straight year topping $3.1 billion.
    • More than 350 game design and development companies or divisions are located in the state, the biggest concentration in the country. Washington is home to some of the most well-known names in the gaming industry.
    • Washington is an emerging leader in cloud computing and virtualization, thanks to our low-cost renewable energy. Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services, Parallels, Skytap, Isilon Systems and Symform all have a presence in the state.
    • PATH, Fred Hutchinson, the Gates Foundation and Seattle Genetics are among the global health and life sciences leaders driving pioneering discoveries in bioscience and medical IT, including mobile-based solutions.
    • Virtually every major U.S. web-based company has a significant presence in Washington, including Google, Facebook, eBay, Twitter, Intel, Salesforce.com and YouTube.
