The rapid growth in the use of body cameras worn by police departments around the country is creating a tremendous amount of video data that has to be stored and easily accessible. Washington-based VieVu and Arizona-based Taser International, who now has an office in Seattle, are market leaders in providing police departments with new body camera hardware. The sheer volume of video data this generates can no longer be kept on DVDs in the basement of the police station. This is where Washington State cloud computing pioneers Microsoft and Amazon come into play. Both body camera companies are utilizing the cloud services of Microsoft’s Azure and Amazon Web Services to provide storage and access to these files for departments across the country.
